The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) is a pioneer in international management education in Asia. It is committed to making a difference in promoting the sustainable development of Asian societies by developing professional, entrepreneurial, and socially responsible leaders and managers. AIM was established in 1968 in partnership with Harvard Business School, the Ford Foundation, and visionaries of the Asian academic and business communities. Today, AIM is one of the leading graduate schools of management in the region.
At AIM, we train business, government, and civil society leaders to manage the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly integrating Asian region. Armed with a clear understanding of how to do business in Asia, our more than 39,000 graduates in 70-plus countries have made their way to the top of the world’s leading companies and organizations.
AIM is the first school in Southeast Asia to achieve accreditation from the US-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) based on the highest standards developed by deans, faculty, and other thought leaders.
AIM has three schools:
- W. SyCip Graduate School of Business (WSGSB). The GSB’s two degree programs—the Master in Business Administration (MBA) and Master in Management (MM)—are global in scope and content, Asian in context and delivery, and designed with emphasis on practitioner-oriented learning. AIM’s MBA program hones business thinking, analysis, and decision-making. It is a boot camp for management fundamentals and business knowledge. The MM program focuses on building adaptive, transformational, and inspirational leadership skills, while also developing students’ strategy formulation and implementation skills. These skills become prerequisites to accelerating the MM graduate through the higher levels of their organizations.
- Executive Education and Lifelong Learning Center (EXCELL). EXCELL is AIM’s executive development arm. AIM executive education first launched its general management programs in the 1970s, signaling the birth of a host of other programs categorized as (1) degree programs (Executive MBA and Evening Executive MBA), (2) non-degree or certificate programs, and (3) in-house or customized programs. To fulfill the vision of developing Asian leaders and to be recognized as the leading Asian center for executive education and lifelong learning, EXCELL continues to widen its reach within the region through various world-class programs and keen sensitivity to the needs of the corporate world.
- Center for Development Management (CDM). CDM is AIM’s response to the challenge of sustaining Asian development. Its mission is to mold the next generation of development leaders and change agents at the development organization level as well as in government. Its mission has been expanded to include work with emerging nations towards building a national corps of public managers who can manage public service delivery programs, including poverty alleviation projects. CDM’s Master in Development Management program and certificate programs seek to produce development catalysts who are capable of implementing programs with the largest impact on the poorest and focused on building strong institutions for sustainability.
AIM also has six endowed research centers that create venues for AIM program participants and the general public to exchange ideas and expertise, sharpen know-how on issues of the day, recommend policies, and propose action. These centers of excellence are the (1) AIM Policy Center, (2) Gov. Jose B. Fernandez Jr. Center for Banking and Finance, (3) Ramon V. del Rosario Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, (4) TeaM Energy Center for Bridging Leadership, (5) Ramon V. del Rosario Sr.-C.V. Starr Center for Corporate Governance, and (6) Dr. Stephen Zuellig Center for Asian Business Transformation.
AIM has a network of more than 38,000 alumni located in more than 70 countries worldwide. Alumni chapters are present in 13 countries: Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam.
In 2001, AIM was honored with the 1st Beyond Grey Pinstripes Award for Business School Innovation in Social Impact Management. In 2002, the World Bank selected AIM as its strategic partner through the establishment of the AIM-WB Development Resource Center, making AIM the world’s first private management institution to partner with the World Bank. AIM was also designated by the Asian Development Bank as a Center of Excellence and a partner in knowledge creation and management.
AIM is a winner of the 1995 Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize, for promoting international understanding and “setting region-wide standards for excellence.” AIM is also the first graduate school of management in the world to be awarded ISO 14001 Certification for its Environmental Management System.
In 2010, AIM placed No. 14 in Asia/Australia in The Economist’s Which MBA? rankings. In 2011, AIM was ranked No. 52 on a list of the Top 100 MBA programs worldwide and No. 1 among Asian business schools in Aspen Institute’s Beyond Grey Pinstripes.
