Prof. Felipe B. Alfonso is the Vice-Chairman of the AIM Board of Trustees and the Executive Director of the Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. AIM Center for Corporate Responsibility. From 1990-99, Prof. Alfonso was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute and the President of its fund-raising arm, the AIM Scientific Research Foundation (AIM-SRF).
Holder of the William Soeryadjaya Chair in Business Management, Prof. Alfonso was conferred the status of Professor Emeritus upon his retirement in 2007. He was formerly a core faculty of the Center for Development Management (CDM). He specializes in human behavior in organization for managers, general management, organizational development and corporate social responsibility. His research focus is on the management patterns of family-owned corporations, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility.
Prof. Alfonso served as Associate Dean for Research (1982-1988) and Associate Dean for Development (1988-1990). Earlier he led a team of faculty members to undertake the Institute’s first major research program on rural development management. Their pioneering efforts resulted in a four-week public program for development practitioners – the Program for Development Managers (PDM). This eventually led to a new degree program, the Master in Development Management (MDM). During his work term in rural and social development in the 70s, he co-edited the book Bureaucracy and the Poor: Bridging the Gap and conducted research on the mobilization and empowerment of rural communities.
Prof. Alfonso has over thirty years of collective experience in conducting management development programs for private and public entities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. His consultancies have included Bank Umum Nasional, Citibank, N.A., Complex Kewangan, Lopez Group Training, MARA, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia, San Miguel Corporation, Saudi American Bank, Unilever, Urban Development Authority and Volvo Malaysia.
Currently, he is the Vice-Chairman of the Manila Electric Company, the Philippines' largest power distribution firm. He is the Chairman of the Board of Corporate Information Solution (CIS), e-Meralco Ventures, Inc. (EMVI), and STI Inc. He is a member of the Board of Directors Andorra Ventures Corporation, Bacnotan Consolidated Industries, Inc., Bauang Private Power Corporation, Benpres Holdings Corporation, First Private Power Corporation, Franklin Baker Company of the Philippines, INAEC Development Corporation, Jollibee Foods Corporation, Meralco Energy, Inc., Meralco Financial Services, Inc., Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corp., and PHINMA, Inc.
