|
Professor Sonny Coloma is the Don Jose Cojuangco Professor of Business Management. He has served as Associate Dean of the Executive Education and Lifelong Learning Center (EXCELL) and Associate Dean of the Master in Business Management (MBM) Program.
He has served in the Philippine government during the administration of President C. Aquino in the following positions: Head, Presidential Management Staff (PMS) and Deputy Executive Secretary in the Office of the President (OP); Undersecretary, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC); and Undersecretary, Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). He also served in the administration of President J. Estrada as DOTC Undersecretary where he supervised the maritime industry sector and headed the Philippine delegation to the biennial meetings of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, United Kingdom.
He has done consulting work for the Philippine government (Senate, House of Representatives, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Manila International Airport Authority, Land Bank of the Philippines, Social Security System, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, international multilateral organizations (US Agency for International Development, Canadian International Development Agency, Asian Development Bank), and leading private corporations (San Miguel Corporation, Toyota Motor Philippines, Inc., Price Waterhouse Coopers Philippines, Inc., Pfizer Philippines, Inc., Bristol Myers Squibb Philippines, Central Azucarrera de Don Pedro Group, First Philippine Holdings Corp., among others).
While on work leave from the Institute, he served as President of the Air and Travel Division and Group Chief Learning Officer at the Transnational Diversified Group, an Asian conglomerate involved in shipping and logistics, ship management, air travel and tourism, information and communications technology, and investments.
Prof. Coloma was President of the University of Makati from 1996 to 1999. Before he joined the academe in 1988, he was Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Human Resource Management of the Far East Bank and Trust Company.
Prof. Coloma was Governor of Rotary International’s largest district in terms of membership and number of clubs; President of the Personnel Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP); and Chairman of the Federation of AIM Alumni Associations. He writes a weekly column, “Vector”, for Business World, the Philippines’ leading business daily newspaper.
In 2004, he was conferred the Triple A (AIM Alumni Achievement) Award, the highest honor accorded by AIM alumni to its outstanding graduates.
Prof. Coloma earned his PhD in Organization Development in 2009, and holds a Master in Business Management (With Distinction) from the Asian Institute of Management (1978). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree major in Political Science, minor in Philosophy from the University of the Philippines (1973).
